My name is Nolan McCoy, Film & TV student in Sydney, Australia. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington. A photographer who highlights landscapes, portraits and lifestyle. Thriving on photography that highlights symmetry, natural light and clean composition. As well as fine art photography, with thought of placement and subjects married with framing in mind to create something truly beautiful.
Film and storytelling is a driving passion as well. Focusing on understanding how what we say and see has an influence on the story. I appreciate visual storytelling even if no dialogue is present, just the very act of telling a story with what you see in itself is an art. Using these techniques of storytelling and filmmaking to get a message or statement across is something I love, constantly asking "How can we tell the story, with the story?"
A mission statement for what I do. The thing I'm creating shouldn't be like anything else I've created before, always wanting to create something outside my static world. I never want to fall into a "normal" way of what I do, But instead constantly try new things, brainstorming new ideas and approaches to how things are done. I personally believe we should try and live by this as well, turning away from a life where you can fall into everything becoming normal or comfortable. Getting out and trying new things, being bold, being dangerous! Only you can hold back your own potential.
Simply, dont settle for the normal.
I purchased my first camera back in 2009, instantly inspired to document and capture the world around me. Shortly after posting a small collection of my first photos online I was asking to take senior portraits for a friend, my first paid photography job. It wasn't much, but that didn't matter it was the first time someone paid me to do what I love. This inspired me to approach more people and take on more jobs, as well through the video capabilities of my DSLR I slowly started to become more and more interested in making videos. I had always loved films and was fascinated with how they were made, I just never had a viable tool to make them before. I started making one-take music videos for a friend of mine and then eventually small skits and promos for my local church. Once I entered college I studied Film and Broadcast and finally made one of my first short films.
From then on through trial and error I've been on a journey just as every creative person has, to not put my identity into my work or make it systematical, take it as it comes and never think I've "arrived" or finally "made it".
The actual core name of the company derives from my surname, McCoy. In addition there's this saying that describes something as "The Real Mccoy".
From there it was obvious that I wanted to incorporate this saying with what I love to do, making things. As a personal challenge and customer assurance that what I make isn't someone else's work or voice, but that it's my own and thats it's genuine from the heart.
I choose the word "Studios" for the sole purpose of not confining myself to a box of one medium. I wanted to make sure I left myself open to expanding what I love to do and allow the brand to follow suit, versus using "Photography" or "Films".
